Frequently Asked Questions about Commander C

Commander C is a heavy-duty industrial drive suited to constant-torque applications: conveyors, mixers, positive-displacement pumps, hoists, and machine tools. It's sized in HD (heavy duty) ratings supporting 150% overload for 60 seconds. For variable-torque centrifugal loads (pumps, fans), Commander S or another VT-class drive offers a more cost-effective solution.
Without filtering, 30 m of standard motor cable is the recommended maximum. For 30–100 m, add an output dV/dt filter to protect motor insulation. For runs over 100 m or where the motor is screened (e.g. submersible pumps), specify a sine-wave output filter so the motor sees clean sinusoidal voltage.
The Commander C supports Modbus RTU as standard, with optional fieldbus cards for PROFINET, EtherCAT, EtherNet/IP, and CANopen. Specify the fieldbus card at order time; it slots into the drive's option-card slot during commissioning.
Standard protection includes thermal overload (motor i²t modelling), short-circuit, ground fault, phase loss, over-voltage, under-voltage, and over-current. Optional motor PTC input lets the drive trip on direct motor-temperature feedback. Earth-fault and bearing-temperature monitoring are available as add-on modules for larger frames.
For drives we supply integrated in a Panel Tech panel, commissioning is included: parameter set-up, motor auto-tune, network configuration, HMI/SCADA integration, and witness-test under load. For drives supplied loose, we offer remote commissioning support via our engineering helpdesk or on-site commissioning quoted separately.
