Frequently Asked Questions about Design & Engineering

A complete electrical design package includes: load schedule, single-line diagram (SLD), short-circuit and coordination study, voltage-drop calculations, cable schedule, earthing layout, lighting layout (where applicable), panel design drawings, EPRA submittal documentation, and a Bill of Quantities. The package is the basis for procurement, installation, and as-built records.
For projects requiring EPRA approval (effectively all medium-to-large commercial and industrial installations), the SLD must be signed by an EBK-registered Professional Electrical Engineer. Our in-house registered engineers sign drawings for the projects we deliver, and we partner with consultants on projects designed elsewhere where additional signature is required.
A short-circuit study calculates the prospective fault current at every bus in the installation, accounting for utility infeed impedance, transformer impedance, and cable impedance. A coordination study plots the time-current curves of upstream and downstream protective devices to ensure the downstream device clears any fault before the upstream device sees it. Both are typically required for industrial projects to demonstrate equipment ratings are adequate.
Yes. Our design team uses AutoCAD Electrical and EPLAN to produce single-line diagrams, panel layouts, cable schedules, and as-built drawings. Drawings are issued in PDF for sign-off and DWG/EDZ for editable handover. Drawings comply with IEC 60617 symbology and a standard title-block convention agreed at project kick-off.
Standard packages — load schedule + SLD + cable schedule + panel design — for a typical commercial project take 3–4 weeks from kick-off to sign-off. Industrial projects with coordination studies, generator paralleling, and SCADA architecture add 2–4 weeks. Complex hospital or data-centre projects can take 8–12 weeks with multiple review cycles. We quote a firm schedule with every engagement.
